RT-PCR saliva tests give faster results within three to four hours of specimen collection. It’s also cheaper at P1.500-P2.000 compared to the RT-PCR swab test which ranges from P3.500-5.000.

Previously, only laboratories in the PR China are allowed to carry out the saliva test until the parallel validation test is carried out by the Research Institute for Tropical Medicine (RITM).

Steve Dailisan, AirAsia Philippines spokesperson, said, “This will definitely boost the appetite of air travelers, especially for AirAsia vacation destinations like Boracay and Bohol, which require an RT-PCR test. The saliva RT-PCR test is not only cheaper, it is also non-invasive and less stringent.

“While you wait for the vaccine, you can rest assured that AirAsia will continue to find ways to offer cheaper alternatives to ease the financial burden on the flying public of meeting air travel requirements,” he added.

AirAsia’s partner diagnostic laboratory, the Philippine Airport Diagnostic Laboratory (PADLab), is in the process of receiving formal confirmation from DOH to facilitate the saliva test very soon.

Guests receive discounted prices in the AirAsia partner laboratories when they use their services via airasia.com.

AirAsia was recently awarded 7 stars by Airlineratings.com for going beyond protecting its passengers against COVID-19.
