Residence quarantine allowed on Sister Islands

The Cayman Islands government has allowed residents of the sister islands to self-quarantine in their homes on Cayman Brac or Little Cayman from November 7th.

The government announced Tuesday evening that it would extend the quarantine-in-residence option to the sister islands based on the success of the pilot program in Grand Cayman.

Sister Island residents who meet the relevant criteria can spend the mandatory 14-day quarantine period at home if they agree to the surveillance technology and if their homes have been approved in advance by the health department.

According to a statement from Government Information Services, the existing isolation and surveillance process in Grand Cayman is being replicated, albeit on a smaller scale, in Cayman Brac and is being administered by the Department of District Administration.

“The teams are currently being trained to take on the various tasks, including PCR testing at the airport. Equip travelers with their bracelets; Get into the geo-fencing platform; Implementation of the monitoring and compliance requirements; and carry out spot checks, ”the statement said.

Unlike in Grand Cayman, where arrivals are transported to their quarantine points in authorized taxis or buses, passengers landing on the sister islands are allowed to drive to their homes in their own vehicles. They are escorted to their place of residence by an enforcement vehicle to ensure that no stops are made along the way, the GIS statement says.

Approval of the quarantine at the place of residence

According to the GIS, travelers should note that permission to quarantine at home is not guaranteed and is subject to approval by the health officer.

Once approved, travelers will receive an email from Travel Cayman with a travel certificate attached.

If the quarantine location is not approved, the traveler can reapply for a suitable location or must quarantine at either a government sponsored or privately owned facility in Grand Cayman.

Regardless of where a person is quarantined, the mandatory isolation period is 14 days, followed by a COVID-19 PCR test on day 15 and a negative result confirmed by the health officer for the end of the quarantine period.

Travelers quarantined at home are asked to allow 24-72 hours for the off-boarding process, which includes receiving the negative test result, removing it from the surveillance dashboard, and returning surveillance equipment.

Delivery of groceries and supplies

While a household is in quarantine, groceries, medication and essential supplies should be ordered from suppliers who offer contactless payment and delivery, according to GIS. This means paying online or by phone and having delivery on your doorstep. There should be no personal or direct physical contact.

Individuals who are in quarantine should wear a mask when receiving deliveries and wait for the person making the delivery to leave the property. People who do not live in the household should not enter the courtyard if someone is outside in quarantine at the same time.

Delivery staff, relatives and friends are not allowed to enter the house or have physical contact with inmates while they are in quarantine.

Any breach of these terms may result in the program being withdrawn from the program without notice and the need to complete the quarantine period at a government quarantine facility. Penalties under Section 71 of the Public Health Act (2002 revision) have recently been increased to a fine of $ 10,000 and up to two years’ imprisonment, and an additional fine of $ 500 for each day the offense is continued Criminal offense was committed, increases continues after conviction.
